Gov. says stay home, avoid crowds if you must get out

Ninety more people tested positive for COVID-19 from Thursday to Friday in Kentucky and there were six additional deaths.

The overall total of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the commonwealth sits at 831 and there have been 37 fatalities. One of the most recent deaths was a 76-year old female from Hopkins County.

At least 228 of those confirmed cases have fully recovered from the virus.

Governor Andy Beshear says the best way you can help prevent the spread of the virus is staying at home and avoiding crowds when you have to go out in public.

He showed various models that project over 10,000 deaths if Kentucky performs poorly on social distancing and 2,000 or less fatalities if Kentuckians do well.

Governor Beshear says the number of churches continuing to meet against guidance has continued to decline and he implored any holdouts to think of some of their members perhaps not being here this Christmas as reason to reconsider.

In other matters, the governor says he knows he will veto at least one section of the General Assembly budget that he believes includes restrictions that would ‘grind government to a halt’ and he reserves the right to veto other lines as he goes through the document.

He says he has vetoed the voter ID bill requiring voters to provide a photo identification at precincts. He says he would have vetoed it without a pandemic believing it suppresses turnout, but notes circuit court clerk offices are closed now and Kentuckians who don’t have one can’t go and apply.

As always, the governor stressed social distancing and frequent and thorough hand washing as the best ways to keep you and others healthy.
