HPD: Man shot adult son in shoulder during altercation

Hopkinsville police arrested a local man Thursday afternoon who allegedly shot his adult son during an argument on Giles Avenue.

An arrest citation for 58-year old Michael Silvis of Hopkinsville says he and his son, 27-year old Kennedrae Metcalfe, were in an argument that became physical. That’s when Silvis allegedly used his pistol and shot Metcalfe in the right shoulder.

Silvis told police he was attempting to fire a warning shot after his son knocked him to the ground.

Metcalfe was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then flown to Vanderbilt, where he was expected to be released soon, according to Hopkinsville police.

Silvis was lodged in the Christian County Jail on a first-degree assault charge.
