A third person has died from COVID-19 in Hopkins County and a curfew has been instituted there for individuals ages 18 and under.
Hopkins County has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton says he learned of the third death Wednesday night. He strongly discouraged residents from bullying members of the Dawson Springs church that played a large role in the spread of the virus by having in-person services against the advice of health officials.
He noted many others have had birthday parties and other social gatherings that could spread the virus against guidance.
Citing concerns about young people continuing to congregate in various locations in the community, Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield has issued a curfew banning individuals 18-years old and younger from being out in public between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Mayor Cotton says there are likely far more than 33 people in Hopkins County with coronavirus, as the virus has been described as widespread in Hopkins County.
