The ongoing coronavirus could continue to further delay MLB from beginning its season. With states such as Florida and many others ordering a stay-at-home order that extends well into May in some cases, it could be some time before we see the season begin with time being needed to prep and get ready. According to the New York Post, the league is expected to review Florida’s latest executive order and comply.

Chris Sale is recovering after having Tommy John surgery. The seven-time All-Star had the operation yesterday more than a week and half after the Boston Red Sox announced he would require the procedure. The left-hander had been plagued with arm trouble all spring.

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is coming to the defense of teammate Noah Syndergaard having Tommy John surgery during the coronavirus pandemic. After an Sports Illustrated article questioned its morality, Alonso tweeted it’s wrong to judge someone’s medical needs to do their job.

Even as baseball is shut down because of the coronavirus, a Pittsburgh Pirates’ right hander will remain shut down until 2021. Jameson Taillon, who had his second Tommy John surgery last August, will remain shut down for the entire season, regardless of when it starts. The righty said he’s thought about pitching this year, but the medical staff shot him down pretty quickly.
