CCHD gives update, 13 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Christian Co

There are now 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Christian County.

Two of those patients are pediatric, seven are younger adults and four are older adults, according to Amanda Sweeney of the Christian County Health Department, who says it’s now more important than ever to follow guidelines on social distancing and hygiene.

The six new patients are in isolation and those who may have had direct contact with those individuals are being notified. One local patient is currently hospitalized at Jennie Stuart Medical Center—the first confirmed case from earlier in March has since recovered.

Public Health Director Kayla Bebout says as tests results come in, she fully expects the amount of positive cases to increase.

Beth McCraw from Jennie Stuart says approximately 350 people have been tested by the hospital—either at the main campus or at the drive-thru screening site at the express lab on the Eagle Way Bypass.

She says 185 tests that were sent to the initial partner—LabCorp—are still pending. The hospital is now sending tests to PPC Lab in Missouri and the turnaround period for them is only about three days, as opposed to well over a week for LabCorp.

Southwestern Kentucky Economic Development Council Director Carter Hendricks says 2,500 industrial employees are displaced in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties.
