Gov. Beshear gives Tuesday afternoon update

There are now 163 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kentucky the governor will issue an order later this week with additional restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the commonwealth.

The 39 new cases was the largest single-day jump since the pandemic began and Governor Andy Beshear admitted he was angry that one of the new cases was an individual who attended a ‘coronavirus party’ made up of a group of young adults in their 20’s.

He announced that school districts will not be required to administer K-PREP state assessments this year with all districts closed to in-person instruction.

A new order will require that all non-life-sustaining businesses close to in-person traffic by 8 p.m. Thursday. While all of the details won’t be in black and white until that order is issued Wednesday, the governor stressed that grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and other necessary facets of society will remain open.

He issued a call for residents of several counties—including Christian and Trigg—to help organizations that are providing meals to kids and seniors.

Beshear says he knows of at least four front-line medical workers who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kentucky. He asked Kentuckians to be patient when calling the new 1-833-KY-SAFER hotline to report those not complying with orders, saying it received thousands of calls in its first few hours of operation.

As always, the governor stressed social distancing, good hygiene and frequent hand-washing as ways to prevent yourself and others from becoming ill.
