Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation closes more parks, facilities due to COVID-19

Following orders set down by Governor Andy Beshear, the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department announced they will be closing additional parks in the community.

In addition to all indoor facilities, programs and pavilions, which includes the Thomas Street Rec Center and the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex, all outdoor playgrounds, restrooms, and Hopkinsville Skate Park will be closed to the public until April 13.  According to a news release, the Greenway System, Tie Breaker Park walking trail and the Hopkinsville Dog Park will remain open, but visitors are asked to strictly abide by all health and safety rules.

Superintendent Tab Brockman says, “Congregating in parks and the lack of social distancing is certainly a concern, which is why we are putting these actions into motion. While it would be best if residents and visitors enjoy the weather and natural beauty in their own yards and neighborhoods, we also understand there is still a need to keep some of our treasured park spaces open on a restricted basis.”

Staff will be monitoring all facilities during four different daily visits to make sure changes are being followed. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation at 270-887-4290.
