School board preparing for possible continued school closures, meetings to go online

The Christian County School Board is preparing for the future in the face of COVID-19 and finished paying for the replacement of the pool air handler at Hopkinsville High School at Thursday’s meeting.

At the moment, Christian County School District students are out of school through April 13—which includes spring break April 3 through April 10—but Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says they’re preparing for the possibility of being told it will be longer.

She says the days, which are currently Non-Traditional Instruction days, will not need to be made up at the end of the school year.  Gimmell says they also intend to make it so people will be able to view board meetings online soon, so they can help with social distancing.

All board members praised the work of staff in their efforts to make sure the students of Christian County are still getting meals during the closure, whether that be at a school campus or on mobile units throughout the county.

The board approved the final payment in the amount of $15,380 for the repair of the pool air handler for Hopkinsville High School’s swimming pool.  Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Hopkinsville Middle School and Christian County High School received awards for staff February high attendance.  Indian Hills Elementary, Christian County Middle and Christian County High received awards for high student attendance in February.
