Tom Brady announced on social media today he will not be returning to the New England Patriots in the 2020 season. In his statement, Brady said he cherished every part of being with the Patriots and the team had set great standards in pro sports.
Brady threw for 74,571 yards and 541 touchdowns with the Patriots, which both rank as the most for a single team in NFL history. He was a six time Super Bowl winner and a four time Super Bowl MVP. Brady is a free agent, with only a couple of teams right now as possibilities, Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Chargers.
ESPN reports New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has agreed to a two year deal worth $50 million. Brees is the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes, pass yards and completion percentage. He also owns the top three single-season completion percentage performances and they’ve taken place in the last three seasons.
It appears Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is leaving the team. Several reports indicate general manager Marty Hurney and Newton’s agent have been working to find the “right fit.” Newton-who was the NFL’s MVP in 2015-has suffered numerous injuries since 2016, which led to multiple surgeries on his throwing shoulder and a foot procedure. He was limited to two games in 2019 after suffering a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot during the preseason.
Former Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb signed a new deal with a new club last night. Cobb signed a three year contract worth $27 million with the Houston Texans. Cobb had spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys catching 55 passes for 828 yards and three touchdowns. Cobb spent his first eight seasons with Green Bay after being drafted in 2011.
