Fort Campbell leadership talks COVID-19 response

Fort Campbell officials gave an update Monday night on efforts there to keep soldiers and families healthy.

Fort Campbell Commander, Major General Brian Winski says a directive has been handed down prohibiting soldiers from traveling more than 80 miles from post.

Assignments to Ranger School and other temporary duty assignments are being postponed and PCS moves to other posts are being paused if they haven’t already left Fort Campbell.

Leadership at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital noted during the virtual town hall on Facebook Live that 14 people have been tested for COVID-19 at the hospital on post. Eleven of the tests have already returned negative and three tests are still pending at the Tennessee State Department of Health, which analyzes all of the hospital’s coronavirus tests with a turnaround of about three days.

Major General Winksi notes Fort Campbell schools have closed and additional measures are possible in the coming days to increase social distancing, should leadership feel they are necessary. Child development centers remain open at this time. He says the post commissary is implementing limits on supply purchases to prevent hoarding.
