A Warren County sheriff’s deputy was injured in an accident late Wednesday night and the other driver was arrested on multiple felony charges.
Kentucky State Police investigated and determined Deputy Phillip Gaines had just completed a call for service and was traveling on Upper Stone Avenue near Bowling Green.
A pickup operated by 34-year old Derek Cordell of Bowling Green was traveling the same roadway when he crossed the center line and struck Deputy Gaines’ sheriff’s department SUV in the front driver’s side.
Deputy Gaines was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
Cordell was treated and released from the Medical Center in Bowling Green and was later arrested for first-degree assault of a police officer, aggravated DUI, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief.
