There are now 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the commonwealth, but governor Andy Beshear says Kentuckians can work together to minimize the impact as much as possible.
There are now three labs processing tests in Kentucky and the two new cases are in Jefferson and Fayette counties. Both patients are in isolation–one at home and one in a hospital.
Beshear says life will change in Kentucky for the next several weeks, but the commonwealth will come out on the other side.
The governor has been in contact with superintendents across the commonwealth and told them to be prepared to close schools with 72 hours’ notice.
Christian County Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill issued a statement Thursday afternoon urging parents to make plans now in case the governor calls for schools to be closed in the future. She reminds that the district has “non-traditional” student instruction plans available in digital and paper format should the Governor close public schools.
Beshear reiterated that most people who contract coronavirus will not suffer severe symptoms, but it is the duty of everyone to protect the elderly and others who are most vulnerable.
He reiterated that frequent and thorough hand-washing combined with social distancing is the best way to avoid becoming ill with COVID-19.
