Latest on Coronavirus causing issues in sports

Austin Peay announced today sports that are not competing in their championship seasons are suspending operations due to the Coronavirus fear. However, sports that are in season will continue as scheduled at least for now.

Duke and the University of Kansas announced suspensions in all sports indefinitely due to Coronavirus fears. This means the NCAA basketball tournament, which both would likely be in, could not be played.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports.com reports the NCAA will make a decision tomorrow on whether the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be played. The NCAA had announced Wednesday they would play those games without fans.

The Southeastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference announced the suspension of spring sports indefinitely because of the Coronavirus.

ESPN reports Major League Baseball Spring Training is expected to be suspended tomorrow and the start of the season, scheduled for later this month, would likely be delayed.

The National Hockey League has suspended play due to the Covid-19 virus, but hopes to return soon. There are 189 games and three and a half weeks left in the NHL’s regular season schedule. There’s only been two seasons in which the Stanley Cup was not awarded. In the 1918-19 season it wasn’t awarded due to a Spanish Flu outbreak and in the 2004-05 season due to a lockout.
