Cadiz collection heads to Tennessee to help tornado victims

The City of Cadiz spent their Monday morning collecting donations at two locations to help support those who were impacted by deadly tornadoes in middle Tennessee.

Cadiz Mayor Todd King was at Hancock’s Market along with members of the Public Works Department and says they began collecting items at 8 a.m. and donations were tremendous, with many citizens giving cash donations to go towards recovery efforts from last week’s tornado outbreak.

He thanked everyone for their time, effort and generosity, saying the community truly impressed him with their compassion.

Crews were also at the Cadiz Food Giant collecting items—from baby food to personal hygiene items to supplies for pets—with the collection going until 12 p.m.  The gathered supplies will head to Nashville early Tuesday morning and will be distributed to storm victims through the Hands on Nashville program.

Twenty four victims were killed in a tornado outbreak that also caused widespread devastation, with East Nashville, Mt. Juliet and the Cookeville area hit the hardest. The National Weather Service has determined most of that damage was caused by an EF3 tornado that stayed on the ground for approximately 50 miles.
