Kentucky has first COVID19 diagnosis, overall risk remains low

Kentucky has its first confirmed case of the Coronavirus.

Governor Andy Beshear says the patient is being treated in isolation at a medical facility in Lexington and did not give any additional information about the individual during a Friday afternoon news conference.

He says the threat of Coronavirus to Kentuckians remains low, but he declared a state of emergency to make more resources available.

Beshear urged Kentuckians to keep the lone diagnosis in perspective and says the Commonwealth is prepared.

The positive test came from a kit analyzed at the state lab. A total of ten tests have been submitted and the Lexington patient was the only positive result, according to the governor.

Beshear expects at least one other person to test positive at some point, but says Kentuckians can protect themselves and others from Corona and other illnesses by practicing good handwashing practices and by staying at home when you feel ill.

Indiana also reported its first case of Coronavirus Friday, with that patient near Indianapolis.
