First round games took place Wednesday in the Ohio Valley Conference men’s and women’s tournament at the Ford Center in Evansville.
Men’s: Eastern Illinois defeated Jacksonville State 67-61. Former Hopkinsville High standout Jaqualis Matlock had three points and five rebounds in 28 minutes in the victory while former Christian County standout Detorrion Ware had nine points and four rebounds in 28 minutes in the loss. Eastern Illinois will play Austin Peay in quarterfinal action this evening.
In the other first round game, Tennessee State defeated Morehead State 74-67 in overtime. The Tigers face Eastern Kentucky in the first quarterfinal game this evening.
Women’s: Murray State and Austin Peay both saw their seasons end Wednesday as the Racers fell to UT Martin 88-33 and Austin Peay lost in overtime to 76-73 to Belmont.
