UPDATE: Possible tornado, flash flooding hit area

A possible tornado moved through north Christian County Monday night and caused some damage and then the danger turned to flash flooding overnight.

A tornado warning was in effect for a little over an hour last night for portions of northern Christian County and the National Weather Service in Paducah quoted a meteorologist who was in the Crofton area who reported witnessing a tornado on the ground.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says carports were destroyed at the Country Cupboard and at Pennyrile Power and Equipment on US 41 near Crofton Elementary School. A sign was also damaged and grain bins were destroyed on Dripping Springs Road and Pleasant Grove Road.

Local volunteer firefighters deployed to clear trees that were blown onto Old Madisonville Road near the railroad.

Large hail was also reported with storms as they moved across the area.

Northern Todd County was also under a tornado warning for about a half-hour, but Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says he did not receive any reports of damage.

There were no reported injuries anywhere in the immediate area.

At least 22 people were killed in Tennessee, with Nashville, Mt. Juliet and Cookeville hit hard by tornadoes.
