United Way of Pennyrile celebrates donors, agencies at dinner

The United Way of the Pennyrile celebrated its many volunteers, donors and agencies at the celebration dinner for the end of the annual fundraising campaign Thursday evening.

More tables had to be set up to accommodate that large crowd that filled the Silo Event Center to celebrate the impact the United Way has in Christian, Todd, Trigg and Caldwell counties.  United Way Board of Directors Chair Brandon Grace announced the grand total as $707,135 and says while that’s short of their original $906,000 goal, all that money means more than you can imagine for the agencies that need it.

Several awards were given out, including the J. William Flowers Award, which was awarded to Sandy Grogan.  Grogan says she’s honored to be the recipient, but the real winners of the award are the ones who impact the community the most—the 20 partner agencies.

Executive Director Annie Catron says their hearts went out to the employees of Ebonite, which shut down abruptly in November, and the loss of their generosity was felt by the United Way.

There were a few new awards this year, including the Beverly Whitfield Award, which was presented to Lucas Stagner.  The Above and Beyond Awards were presented to Planter’s Bank and the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department for their fundraising efforts.

The People Helping People Awards were presented to Atmos Energy, Higgins Insurance, Continental Mills and the overall award went to the City of Hopkinsville.
