Pennyroyal Area Museum opens with fresh look at local history

After lengthy renovations and 105 years of service in some capacity to the community, the Pennyroyal Area Museum had a grand reopening Thursday afternoon.

It was a large turnout for the re-dedication, showing off a vast difference between the museum open to the public today compared to the one that closed for renovations well over a year ago.  Museum Director Alissa Keller says on February 27—105 years ago—the building that would one day become the museum opened as the community post office, and has been here ever since.

Capital campaign chair Robert Martin says that although they did dream big, it turned out better than they could have hoped, thanks to many partnerships.

Historian William Turner was involved in getting the museum opened 45 years ago and says this reopening is proof of its success.

Mayor Wendell Lynch says it’s a community effort to preserve history.

The museum will now be once again open to the public, and the community is invited to explore the brightly lit space, new interactive exhibits and the many pieces of local history.
