NATIONAL HEADLINES 2/26/20

Brandon Childress overcame a horrid start from the field to help lead Wake Forest to a stunning 113-101 win over No. 7 Duke in double overtime. Childress missed his first 10 shots from the field but connected on a 3-pointer with 15.5 seconds left in regulation that tied the game and sent it to the extra session. The senior guard finished with 17 points in 45 minutes.

The New York Giants are welcoming trade offers for the fourth overall pick in the April draft. GM Dave Gettleman said at the NFL Combine yesterday that they are open for business. Many teams are expected to try and trade up to take Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the top-five. The Giants took QB Daniel Jones sixth overall last year.

New Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule wants quarterback Cam Newton back this season. Rhule said Tuesday at the NFL Combine that there’s no doubt he wants Cam on the team. Newton’s status is in the air after he missed most of last season with a foot injury. Trade rumors have surrounded him, but Rhule wants him to get fully healthy.

The NFL moved closer to labor peace for another decade early today when player representatives voted to send a new deal already approved by the owners to the full union membership. A simple majority of some 2,000 players must accept the agreement for it to go into effect this year. There was no immediate word when that vote would occur
