Shortstop prospect Jose Garcia belted two solo shots in the Cincinnati Reds 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels yesterday. The Reds will play the Seattle Mariners today at Goodyear Ballpark with 2019 National League All-Star Sonny Gray making his first start.

The St. Louis Cardinals fell 9-6 to the Washington Nationals. Paul DeJong belted a three-run homer in defeat. The Redbirds play split squad games today against the Houston Astros and Miami Marlins.

The Chicago Cubs fell to the Colorado Rockies 12-6. New Cubs manager David Ross is finally in the dugout for the Cubs. He missed the first three Spring Training games of his tenure with a bout of the flu.

Grant Dayton gave up a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning as the Atlanta Braves settled for a 4-4 tie with the Minnesota Twins. The Braves visit the Baltimore Orioles today.

Freddie Freeman was not in the Braves’ lineup yesterday. The first baseman was scratched with inflammation in his right elbow. The Braves say they are just being cautious. Freeman is expected to be given several days off in order to recover.

The New York Yankees won’t have the services of starting pitcher Luis Severino this season. The two-time All-Star needs Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss all of 2020. GM Brian Cashman says doctors have confirmed the need for surgery on his right elbow. Severino also missed most of last season with a rotator cuff injury.
