Text to 911 coming to Christian County, new subdivision being built on Concord Lane

Christian Fiscal Court heard about plans to bring text to 911 services to the community Tuesday morning and approved a tax incentive for a new housing subdivision on Concord Lane.

Magistrates gave unanimous approval to spending $4,500 for software to begin the text to 911 at the Hopkinsville-Christian County ECC and Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says dispatchers will be able to text back to you once the program is implemented.

It’s unknown when the service will begin locally and Graham says ECC will be able to determine your location based on the text in case there is an emergency.

Meanwhile, Hal McCoy presented information on the Concord Villas—a 67-home development on about 33 acres off Concord Lane. He says multiple builders will construct homes that will cost approximately 160 to 225 thousand dollars and hopefully fill a void in the local housing market.

Fiscal Court approved an incentive package that rebates 80-percent of newly created property tax revenue over the next 10 years back to the developers to offset their costs.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says they again had more cats and dogs leave for their forever homes than came into their doors last month.

In other action, magistrates approved a contract with Codell Construction for repair of the Christian County Senior Citizens Center, which was heavily damaged by severe weather in January.

Treasurer Walter Cummings says work has already begun and evaluation by engineers showed more damage to the building than what was initially thought. There is no timetable yet on when the work might be completed.
