Dalmatian ‘Pierce’ to help HFD spread fire safety message

The Hopkinsville Fire Department is introducing ‘Pierce’ to the community, a Dalmatian that will help them educate about fire prevention and safety.

Pierce was at WHOP Monday morning along with several firefighters. Deputy Chief Phillip Ferguson says they believe kids will respond to their safety message when delivered with the assistance of Pierce.

Captain Michael Pendleton says the number of fires has been on the increase and they are always looking for ways to spread the word about fire prevention.

He says Pierce is undergoing training right now, but he’ll soon be making visits at schools and going on calls.

Pierce lives with Lt. Curtis Sauers and goes to work with him when he is on duty.
