A motion to reduce bond for Anshanique Leavell, the woman accused in the 2019 shooting death of Amareya’ Freeman, was once again denied Monday morning in Christian Circuit Court.
Leavell appeared alongside defense Attorney Michael Thompson, who requested that her bond be reduced to $80,000 and she be allowed to pay 10 percent cash of that.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith argued that her bond is more than appropriate, especially considering Leavell reportedly admitted to her role in the shooting.
Circuit Judge John Atkins agreed that the bond was appropriate due to the severity of the charges and left her bond at $100,000 cash. He also set a pretrial conference for April 15, saying he intends to set a trial date at that time if a resolution has not been agreed upon by that date.
Leavell is accused of shooting Freeman in the chest at the Greenville Road apartments on June 6 of last year and is charged with murder, receiving stolen property and complicity to tampering with physical evidence.
