School board approves make up day, keeps same last day

The Christian County School Board approved a calendar revision that sets a snow make up day for students while still keeping the same last day of school for the year.

Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett says the calendar revision maintains the required instruction time while keeping the last day of school May 20—though students will now attend school on March 20.

That calendar could change again, depending on if Christian County receives anymore inclement weather.  In other action, the board approved fees pertaining to school activities for the 2020-2021 school year.  Director of Business Jessica Darnell says several changes were made for fees at Gateway Academy and in middle school sports, due to them not having booster clubs.

A fee waiver option does exist for students who qualify for free and reduced lunches.  Susie Hartline, Director of Strategic Planning, Federal Programs and Grant Development announced her resignation, with Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill thanking her for all her hard work and dedication to the district.

The board discussed what criteria they will present to the Superintendent Screening Committee for what they want in the next superintendent, heard an update on the search timeframe and how the interview process will be conducted.

The student of the month is Amiyah Williams of Millbrooke Elementary School.
