UPDATED: Two hurt in I-24 accident

Details have been released on a three-vehicle accident from Tuesday afternoon on the I-24 overpass over Fort Campbell Boulevard.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department investigated and determined a car driven by 52-year old Phillip Gaw of South Carolina and a tractor-trailer operated by 30-year old Christopher Austin of Illinois were stopped with traffic on the eastbound overpass.

An eastbound vehicle driven by 80-year old Richard Tostovarsnik of Illinois was approaching from behind at a high rate of speed when he struck the mirror of Gaw’s car and then collided with the semi, wedging his vehicle between the trailer and the concrete barrier of the overpass.

Tostovarsnik and his passenger, 69-year old Alice Tostovarsnik, both had to be extricated from their vehicle and were taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gaw and Austin were not injured in the crash.
