Hamlin wins Daytona 500, Newman hospitalized following crash on final lap

Denny Hamlin is celebrating his second straight Daytona 500 victory. Hamlin edged out Ryan Blaney in double-overtime to win the rain delayed 62nd running on Monday. It was the second-closest finish in race history. It’s Hamlin’s third career Daytona 500 win. Chris Buescher finished third, followed by David Ragan and Kevin Harvick.

Meanwhile, Ryan Newman is in the hospital after a fiery crash on the final lap of the Daytona 500. He was in the lead when his car was nudged and sent veering into the wall. The car flipped, caught fire and was hit by another car, which tossed him into the air again. Newman is in serious condition, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
