Woman arrested for alleged check fraud

An arrest warrant for multiple counts related to forgery and fraud was served Tuesday afternoon against a Hopkinsville woman.

It alleges that 59-year old Karen Durkee of Hopkinsville cashed a check for $8,500 at Planters Bank on January 15 and then returned to the bank and attempted to cash a $35,000 check 12 days later.

She went to Planters Bank again on February 5 and tried to cash a check for $80,000.

Hopkinsville Police Detective Samantha Rodriguez contacted three different payers on the checks and determined that while the account numbers are real, the check numbers were non-existent and none of the checks that Durkee attempted to cash were authorized.

Durkee is charged with three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, felony theft by deception and attempted theft by deception.
