A woman and child were killed in a fire that destroyed a home Saturday night on North McPherson Avenue in Hopkinsville.
Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel identifies the victims as 87-year old Martha Anne Harris and 10-year old Alvin Davidson of 144 North McPherson.
Firefighters were called to that address about 10:39 p.m. and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure, according to Captain Michael Pendleton, who says the victims were found inside the home during firefighting operations.
Daniel says the woman and child were in a back bedroom and the fire appears to have started in the living room in the front of the house. He says it appears they died from smoke inhalation, but an autopsy will be performed.
Captain Pendleton says the cause of the fire is under investigation and the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called.
