The Cincinnati Reds loaded an 18-wheeler with baseball equipment and players and staff suitcases at Great American Ball Park to begin the 1,825-mile journey to Goodyear, Arizona, their spring training site. It included 10,000 baseballs and 1,000 bats. Pitchers and catchers report to camp next Thursday and begin workouts a week from tomorrow.
The St. Louis Cardinals are adding a pitcher to their roster just in time for the start of spring training next week. The club has claimed left-hander Ricardo Sánchez off waivers from Seattle. In Double-A last year, Sánchez posted a 4.44 ERA with 135 strikeouts and 38 walks in 27 starts. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Cards designated infielder Ramón Urías for assignment.
