Man arrested for fourth DUI, assaulting officer

A man was arrested Tuesday morning by Hopkinsville police for his fourth DUI and for assault of an officer.

Police were dispatched to the East Fourth Street Copper Still about 7 a.m. for a man asleep in his vehicle in the drive-thru lane and officers found 57-year old Eric Meaux asleep at the wheel.

They were able to awaken him and an arrest citation says he had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.

He struggled with police and shoved an officer, according to the report, which says he admitted to drinking and driving once at the hospital. Meaux reportedly refused blood testing and was arrested for his fourth DUI in 10 years, driving on a DUI suspended license, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer and possession of an open container.
