Councilman Wendell Lynch is officially the presiding officer over Hopkinsville City Council following approval of a municipal order at a special-called meeting Saturday morning.
That was the only action taken during the meeting, according to Councilman Terry Parker.
Lynch will preside over all city council meetings until council chooses an interim mayor following the resignation of former mayor Carter Hendricks, who left to take over as the executive director of the Economic Development Council.
Council has a month to make that appointment before Governor Andy Beshear would be called upon to make the choice.
If a member of council becomes interim mayor, then council will have to appoint someone to replace that member.
