Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies will have extra patrols out Super Bowl Sunday looking to stop and arrest anyone driving impaired.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is calling the campaign “Fans don’t let fans drive drunk.”
A news release says troopers, officers and deputies will put a high emphasis on all traffic enforcement violations, including speeding, failure to seat belts, impaired or distracted driving, and commercial vehicle enforcement.
KSP is urging motorists to slow down—especially in construction zones and heavy traffic areas. Wear your seat belt, move over if you encounter first responders on the side of the road, eliminate distractions while driving and leave early for your destination as law enforcement may conduct traffic safety checkpoints on Super Bowl Sunday.
Most importantly, if you know you are going to consume alcohol at a party for the big game, plan a safe and sober ride home.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, preliminary numbers indicate 121 people in Kentucky were killed in crashes that involved a drunken driver in 2019.
