Man indicted for rape, unlawful imprisonment

A Christian County Grand Jury returned an indictment Friday morning for rape and unlawful imprisonment against a local man.

The indictment against 44-year old James Sanders of Hopkinsville also includes a charge of intimidating a participant in a legal process.

The original arrest citation from December says he and the female victim were in an argument at a Younglove Street home that turned physical when Sanders grabbed the woman and pushed her head into a wall several times, causing injuries.

The woman said she tried to use her cell phone to call police, but that Sanders broke her phone and didn’t allow her to leave for approximately a day.

During that time, he allegedly forced the woman to have sex on two separate occasions.

The grand jury also indicted 19-year old Payton Leneave of Hopkinsville for complicity to first-degree wanton endangerment.

Hopkinsville police allege Leneave was driving a car in May of last year when an unknown passenger fired a gunshot from the vehicle into a home.

Leneave had reportedly been involved in a relationship with a family member of an individual inside the home at the time.

No one was injured in the incident.
