YMCA celebrates strong year, volunteers at annual meeting

The YMCA of Hopkinsville celebrated its many volunteers and a successful 2019 at their annual meeting Thursday evening.

Rich Maddux served as the 2019 Chief Volunteer Officer and says that the local YMCA had a successful year, seeing a growth in membership, an increase in donations and an overall increase in revenue from 2018.

He says expenses saw an increase in maintenance needs, program expenses and financial aid for memberships, with the YMCA ending the year with healthy reserves that he says will go towards pavement and building upkeep.

The gavel was passed to Mack Major at the meeting, who will serve as the 2020 Chief Volunteer Officer.  Major says they intend to maintain their fiscal responsibility while also looking to expand programs, outreach and other projects.

He thanked the staff, CEO Sheryl Ellis, and the many volunteers for the hours of hard work and dedication they give to the YMCA.

Several awards were given out at the meeting, including the Coach of the Year Award, which went to Pat Riley.  The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Dianne Davis, while the Role Model of the Year went to Kristen Lilly.
