The Hopkinsville Greenway is now home to three public safety ‘call boxes’, where people will be able to interact with the devices and be connected to 911 immediately.
It’s all in an effort to keep people safer while helping them feel more comfortable on the trails at the same time, and City Administrator Troy Body says while the installation was prompted by the attack of a woman on the trail, they can be used for any type of emergency.
He says the Greenway system is expanding quickly, and it’s possible they will put in more call boxes once the expansion is complete.
Right now there are three of the boxes, and including installation of software and the boxes themselves, each cost $10,000—money Body says was well spent if it helps protect any citizen who uses the trails. The call boxes are newly installed but not yet working—Body says they should be activated and ready to go very soon.
Hopkinsville police will continue to patrol the trails as they have been.
