January 19 was Dolly Parton’s birthday, and the Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library celebrated the occasion with a party Wednesday.
Sarah Hardison is the director of the local imagination library—the national organization was started by Parton many years ago in an effort to fight illiteracy—and says children threw a party during their regular story time. She says they had snacks, read books and created a birthday card they will send to Parton.
Hardison says the imagination library has a huge impact in Christian County, serving approximately 3,400 children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old.
On Friday, the Imagination Library will be at the Oak Grove Community Center, along with the public library, for a ‘life sized’ free game night, starting at 5 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. Hardison says they accept sign ups and donations always, and those interested can contact the program by calling the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library at 270-887-4262.
