City council approves ward map change

It was business as usual at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville City Council meeting, where council approved a new ward map for the city.

The ward map was altered due to the recent annexation of the Windmill Farms area, which is west of Fort Campbell Boulevard.  Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks says the new map has no changes to other wards, and this new annex is part of Ward 8.

This meeting was Mayor Hendricks’ last council meeting, as he steps down to become the new director of the EDC. City Attorney Doug Willen says a presiding officer—who will be chosen at Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting—is meant to serve in a mayor’s absence during a meeting, while the interim mayor will serve until a new mayor is elected in November.

Newly promoted Hopkinsville Fire Battalion Chief Spencer Wood, Fire Captian Tommy McGraw and Fire Lieutenant Todd Hampton were sworn in at the meeting
