The Republican northern Kentucky legislator sponsoring legislation to legalize sports betting in the commonwealth is optimistic it will pass both chambers of the General Assembly this session.
Appearing on Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday morning, Representative Adam Koenig explained that House Bill 137 would allow anyone to download an app at a racetrack in Kentucky and then use that app to gamble on major professional and college sports.
It was approved on a unanimous vote in a House committee last week and he believes it will get through the full House with between 60 and 70 votes.
Koenig says the tougher task will be getting enough votes in the Senate, though he believes it will happen.
He says he’s been assured Governor Andy Beshear would sign the bill, should it get to his desk.
