Local lawmakers react to State of Commonwealth Address

Local legislators are reacting to Governor Andy Beshear’s first State of the Commonwealth Address from Tuesday night.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says it bothered him to hear Beshear talk about unity on the same day he opened the door for Planned Parenthood to open additional abortion clinics in Kentucky, but he was pleased with the governor’s willingness to reach across the aisle on some meaningful legislation.

Beshear will give his budget address in a couple weeks and Thomas expects the proposed spending plan to include new sources of revenue that are not likely to come to fruition.

Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says he’s encouraged with Governor Beshear’s willingness to work with the Republican-controlled House and Senate.

Dossett has said he hopes the House will have its budget finished and sent to the Senate by the end of February.
