Suspect accused of assaulting, strangling woman

A Hopkinsville man was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting and strangling a woman.

An arrest citation for 55-year old David Williams of Hopkinsville alleges that he hit the victim on the back of her head and on her back with a wooden pole. The woman said Williams also kicked her in the stomach and strangled her from behind.

She said he pulled a knife and threatened to stab her after she was able to catch her breath again.

Police say the victim had swelling and bruising to her eye and visible injuries on her hand.

Williams was charged with first-degree strangulation, second-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault.
