Janice Mason Art Museum receives $340k grant

The Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz is the recipient of a $340,000 community development block grant, and Governor Andy Beshear presented the check Monday afternoon.

A large crowd gathered inside the art museum, which was once a post office, where they showed off the art and their sense of community.  Governor Beshear presented them with the check, along with Department for Local Government Commissioner Dennis Keene, saying that his administration intends to make local gems like the museum a focal point of tourism.

He says the money will be used to make the building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and that will allow more Kentuckians the chance to view the art and history inside.

The Janice Mason Art Museum is free of charge to visit and frequently has new displays to enjoy—last year, it saw over 3,200 visitors.

Cadiz wasn’t the only city to see a block grant locally, with the City of Dawson Springs receiving $1 million to put towards repairing and analyzing the sewer system. The city will use the CDBG funding to collect and analyze data on the flow of the current system, use the results to repair and clean damaged sewer lines and manholes, and to make updates to improve water quality.
