PACS working to resume Meals on Wheels, congregate meals quickly

The PACS Christian County Senior Citizens Center was severely damaged by Saturday morning’s severe weather, but officials have been working hard to resume as many services as they can as quickly as possible.

PACS Director of Aging Services Rachel Newman says those served by Meals on Wheels will use one of their “shelf stable meals” that have been previously provided for bad weather days on Monday. By Tuesday, she hopes they will be able to cook enough hot meals at the Todd and Caldwell County PACS senior centers to resume normal services.

Lunch at the Christian County Senior Center will be temporarily disrupted, but Newman says she will have discussions with individuals at their backup location about when meals can be moved there.

Christian County’s center had been cooking for Todd and Caldwell counties, but Newman says the staff can cook enough food in Elkton and Princeton for all three counties.

Congregate lunch in Todd and Caldwell counties will not be disrupted and both centers will operate as normal on Monday.

While all of the food services will be worked out in some way in the near future, Newman notes countless seniors use the Christian County center to exercise on their equipment and to walk in the building every day. Those individuals will have to find somewhere else to go to continue their routines.

She notes that it’s imperative for meals on wheels to resume quickly, as clients depend on that food and the PACS delivery driver is often the only person that client sees in a day.
