Todd Fiscal Court affirms support of Second Amendment with resolution

Todd Fiscal Court approved a resolution Friday morning declaring its support for the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

It’s similar to Second Amendment sanctuary county measures approved elsewhere, but County Attorney Jeff Traughber says the “sanctuary” wording was removed to avoid any connotations to a connection with illegal immigration.

There have been concerns in other counties that approved sanctuary ordinances that their local law enforcement may have been unintentionally directed by fiscal court to not enforce state law on firearms bans at schools or other sensitive locations.

Traughber says Todd Fiscal Court has not directed any law enforcement agency to not enforce state law, it’s simply a plea for lawmakers to not approve any legislation that would infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Approximately 20 citizens were at the meeting in support of the resolution.

In other action, Magistrates approved the expenditure of up to $25,000 for purchase of a new van for the Todd County Senior Center. It will be used by PACS for transportation of food and individuals served by the agency.

Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan presented an oil painting of former Clerk Leslie Cunningham that will be permanently displayed in the office.

Cunningham died in August following a battle with cancer.
