State Representative Charles Booker of Louisville has made it official—he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in this May’s primary election.
Booker has hosted listening sessions across Kentucky as he mulled a decision on whether or not to run, including a stop last month in Hopkinsville.
In a statement to supporters Sunday, Representative Booker says, “It gives me hope to hear voices from across Kentucky, who have been ignored for so long, speak up and say they are ready to fight back.”
Booker joins a slate of seven Democrats seeking the nomination, with Amy McGrath receiving the most national support thus far.
The winner of the primary will likely face Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the November general election.
