It will take longer than normal for visitors to get on Fort Campbell as the post has implemented additional security measures at all gates due to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin Saturday asking Americans to be vigilant as Iran has vowed to seek revenge after American forces assassinated one of their generals last week in Iraq. The United States long ago designated Iran as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism.”
Fort Campbell officials say “There are no specified or credible threats against this installation, its Soldiers, or our units.”
They apologize for any inconvenience the additional security measures may present, but say visitors should be prepared for longer than normal entry times.
The statement concludes with, “These measures are taken out of an abundance of caution and will be in effect until the Fort Campbell leadership deems it appropriate to go back to normal gate operations.”
