Republican 3rd District state Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County has announced he’ll seek reelection this year, promising to “uphold conservative values.”
In a news release Saturday night Westerfield says, “Since 2013, I have helped pass bipartisan legislation, fought hard for government transparency, protected the unborn, worked to improve public safety, and promoted economic opportunity for the families in our district.”
Westerfield represents Christian, Todd and Logan counties and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He has been an attorney since 2006 and formerly served as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Christian County.
Westerfield touts his role in seeing criminal justice reform accomplished in 2014 and says “Being a successful legislator requires persistence, which is why I’ve filed for re-election. I have been fortunate to see legislation come to fruition that has been years in the making. I promise to continue expanding opportunities for struggling Kentuckians and reforming policies that inadequately address the real issues our communities face.”
He is currently unopposed and the filing deadline is 4 p.m. eastern time Friday.
