Atty. General sends formal request to FBI to investigate pardons

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has formally requested that the FBI investigate pardons issued by Governor Matt Bevin in his final days in office.

According to a letter written by Attorney General Cameron, the formal request was made on December 30, and states that his office is willing to assist with an FBI investigation.  It also states that he “stands by the outstanding work of Kentucky’s prosecutors and respect the decisions of juries who convict wrongdoers.  While Kentucky’s constitution gives the Governor the power to pardon a person convicted of a crime, I believe the power should be used sparingly and after great deliberation.”

The news release cities the pardon of Patrick Baker as a particular one for investigation—Baker’s family allegedly raised tens of thousands of dollars for Bevin in 2018.
