Hopkinsville Electric System gave their annual report at a recent Hopkinsville City Council meeting and received a clean audit.
Gentry, Duiguid and Associates performed the independent audit and reported that it had a ‘clean opinion’—which is the type of opinion one wants for their audit. HES General Manager Jeff Hurd says the system is proud to continue serving the people of the city with more than just electricity, but also high speed internet. He says they are at nearly 16 and half years now without recordable lost time injuries, as HES focuses heavily on keeping their crews safe.
Hurd says one thing they accomplished in 2019 was the completion of the LED street light project and the expansion of their Gig City project to bring fiber optic internet to their customers.
He says HES does face it’s own struggles, such as with the pension crisis, but they were able to avoid any rate increases in 2019 and hope to continue that in the future.
Hurd says HES will continue to try and improve as they go forward into 2020 and will stay involved with community, whether that be by supporting the United Way of the Pennyrile, sponsoring the Hopkinsville Christmas parade or any other endeavors.
