The Christian County Sheriff’s Department investigated a wreck on I-24 Sunday that sent an Illinois resident to a local hospital.
According to a police report, deputies responded to about the 71 mile marker for reports of a vehicle off the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, 24-year old Ruth Schuiling of Illinois, told deputies that she had been traveling west on I-24 going around 65 miles per hour when she went around a curve and hit a puddle of water. It had been raining heavily for the majority of the day and due to the tires having little tread on them, she hydroplaned and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle went off the road and struck an embankment before coming to a stop. Schuiling refused medical treatment at the scene but her passenger, 25-year old Zachariah Teberi of Illinois, was transported to Trigg County Hospital for back pain.
Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
